Saffola Masala Oats : The Perfect Pipeline to Primetime Nutrition

Indians have officially transitioned from the lifestyle of a physically active worker to that of a sedentary worker given the overtly hi-tech nature of the 21st century workplace. We literally have just about everything available to us on our finger tips and literally at the push of a button. The quantum of physical activity we perform daily has nose dived considerably. What we fail to realize, both collectively as well as individually, is that our Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) has also undergone a significant modification owing to the change in our modern day lifestyles.

Gone are the days when men needed 2875 kcal/day and women needed 2225 kcal/day.

The numbers have dropped to 2425 kcal/day and 1875ย kcal/day respectively. We really need food products in the market that are fast and easy to cook and relatively low in calories. Let’s be honest–ย  ย nobody can survive on merely a bowl of plain garden variety cornflakes for breakfast any more (at least not me!).

Saffola, which is manufactured by Marico Ltd., has introduced a new type of breakfast cereal to the market. We can also call it a โ€œbreakfast cereal alternative.โ€ It is the SAFFOLA MASALA OATS range. It is like porridge with respect to texture and consistency. That said, the primary and perhaps the most significant difference is that traditionally porridge is made from semolina (a bi-product of wheat processing) whereas Saffola contains whole grain oats.

The Magic of Oats

Oats is one of the healthiest cereals available to us today the world over. It is rich in fiber, protein and is almost totally devoid of fats and cholesterol.ย  Oats is the ideal food grain!

However, the equation that โ€œhealthy isnโ€™t usually tastyโ€ applies here lock, stock and barrel. The R&D team at saffola has achieved a phenomenal milestone with their masala oats product line.

The masala oats are super healthy and tasty. If you serve this product to an individual without telling him or her that its oats that they are enjoying, the possibility of their guesswork being successful is rather remote. The oats taste like porridge in a peppy tomato-y or a nice vegetable broth like flavor.

THE TECHNICAL low down

A major constituent of the ingredients is wholegrain oats (70.3%). As a thickening agent, Marico uses maltodextrin which is essentially a derivative of starch and is therefore not totally a chemical additive.ย  Hence a brownie point for that.

It contains real spices and vegetables. The vegetables are cut into tiny pieces and dehydrated thus extending the shelf life. Flavor enhancers and anticaking agents are also present in microscopic quantities but you cannot manufacture the product without them. Nobody would want to start their day with a clumpy dish!

Ease of Preparation

The product is very easy to cook, you just have to add 240 mlย  water to the contents of the packet and cook it for 3 minutes and TA-DAA!

Major ย USPs

SO finally there is a non sugary breakfast cereal on the market that is affordable, healthy and tasty that is widely available at grocery stores throughout the country, manufactured meticulously by the manufacturer with a definite focus on food quality, and designed to add to your daily dose of both nutrition and taste.
